17 June 2020

Following the successful re-opening of 50 stores on Monday, Debenhams is to re-open a further 38 stores in England today, with the rest following shortly thereafter.

Four stores have also re-opened in Northern Ireland, whilst the business awaits confirmation from Wales and Scotland as to when stores located in those nations can re-open.

Stores reopening on 17 June:

Banbury, Crawley, Newbury, Sutton, Basildon, Doncaster, Nottingham, Telford, Basingstoke, Exeter, Nuneaton, Walsall, Beverley, Fareham, Oldham, Warrington, Birmingham, Gloucester, Oxford Street, White Rose, Bolton, Gravesend, Plymouth, Wigan, Bradford, Guildford, Preston, Woking, Brighton, Hounslow, Romford, Workington, Carlisle, Hull, Southend, Coventry, Middlesbrough and Sunderland.

Debenhams has implemented a raft of safety measures, including installing 2,000 perspex screens at tills, providing staff with visors and gloves and implementing queue management processes.

Steven Cook, Managing Director, Debenhams, said: “We were pleased with the first day of re-opening in England yesterday, following the re-opening of our Northern Irish stores last week. Our customers have been complimentary about the safety precautions we have introduced.

"It is very early days of course, but we look forward to opening most of our remaining English stores on Wednesday. Longer-term, there will be plenty of issues to be resolved, notably around unsustainable rates bills, if the High Street is going to get back onto a sustainable footing.
