Debenhams Group addresses market speculation about funding
Debenhams Group, previously Boohoo Group before a March 2025 rebrand, has responded to speculation about a new debt facility.
In comes in the wake of a report on Wednesday by Sky News that said the retailer was in advanced talks to secure a £175m refinancing boost with its former owner, US-based investment firm TPG.
The statement from Debenhams Group reads:
"Debenhams Group (DEBS.L), the online powerhouse in fashion, home and beauty, notes the recent speculation regarding a new debt facility.
"Shareholders are reminded, that as previously announced, it has in place an existing £125 million RCF which does not expire until October 2026. It continues to review its debt facilities, in the ordinary course of business."
The speculation comes in the wake of Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group increasing its stake in Debenhams to 28% in May, and also Ashley making another attempt to increase his influence on Debenhams Group last month by offering financial support in debt refinancing.
TPG helped take Debenhams private in 2003 before re-floating it three years later. If a deal with TPG was to materialise it would re-establish the investment firm as a Debenhams stakeholder in another twist in the tale of the one-time British high street giant.
