Debenhams Group has today announced the appointment of two new non-executive directors to its parent company, Celine Jersey Topco Limited.

John Walden, formerly CEO of Home Retail Group plc and its principal subsidiary Argos, and Kevin Conroy – the founder and CEO of Conroy Media – will join as non-executive directors at an unconfirmed date.

Walden stepped down as CEO of Home Retail Group following the sale of Argos to Sainsbury’s in 2016. He is currently chairman of Naked Wines, formerly known as Majestic Wines, and was previously executive chairman of Holland & Barrett International.

Conroy Media provides advisory services for an array of early stage and high growth companies. Kevin Conroy was formerly president of digital and media for MGM Inc. He is currently also a non-executive director of Mattress Firm and has previously served on the boards of Newell Brands and Sotheby’s.

Commenting on the new appointments, Mark Gifford, chairman of Celine Jersey Topco Limited, said: “We are delighted to appoint two such distinguished figures to the board.

“I know Stefaan [Vansteenkiste, CEO of Debenhams] and the operational team will welcome their insight and strategic understanding. We are assembling a strong board and, with a supportive investor group, substantial resources and a clear plan, Debenhams is well set to implement its turnaround.”
