Customisable Opening Ceremony X UMD capsule launches on Farfetch

Cult US label Opening Ceremony and UMD by Unmade have collaborated on a customisable capsule collection that will launch exclusively tomorrow on Farfetch.

All of the Opening Ceremony x UMD pieces are made from Merino wool and will be produced at Johnstons of Elgin’s 200-year-old mill in the Scottish Borders. Each piece will be made to order with a lead time of around four weeks from order to delivery. Prices will range from £55 to £415 depending on selected design.

UMD is the brand and mark of Unmade technology, a London-based start-up with a mission to revolutionise knitwear by employing cutting edge technology to produce one-off pieces. UMD collaborates with the world’s leading brands - it has previously collaborated with Hiut Denim and Christopher Raeburn among others. Its initials stand for Uniquely Made Design.

Opening Ceremony founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, who are also joint creative directors of Kenzo, said they were "huge supporters of companies that use technologies in interesting ways to elevate fashion". Adding, "When we learnt about Unmade, we felt an instant connection. We love what they do and are excited to collaborate with these signature OC designs."

"Unmade is building the next level of customisation where colours can be changed, patterns can be broken apart and monograms are seamlessly integrated into the very fabric of each piece of bespoke knitwear," explained Unmade CEO Hal Watts. "Once the customer makes their choice, this is automatically sent to industrial machines in a 200-year-old factory. This collaboration represents an exciting moment for Unmade as we launch our UMD label, which reflects our desire for constant innovation and growing digital design expertise."

Farfetch buying and merchandising director Candice Fragis said the collaboration offered customers a "completely unique experience". "This is more than just playing designer – it gives our global customer the opportunity to create something one-of-a-kind and totally bespoke to accommodate their style and needs. We are excited to offer this merge of luxury and innovation to our global online customer," she said.
