Crowds flock to Colette after closure announced

Fashion fans have been flocking to iconic Parisian boutique Colette following the announcement of its closure earlier this month.

The Rue St Honoré store, which was founded in 1997 by Colette Roussaux, will cease trading on 20 December as its founder has expressed a wish to retire.

"Colette Roussaux has reached the time when she would like to take her time; and colette cannot exist without Colette," the store said in a statement.

Yesterday The Industry visited the store and met with head of PR Guillaume Salmon. Salmon said it had at this stage no plans for a special event to mark the closure of the store, which became one of the world's most influential concept stores fusing fashion with art, music and culture.

"We had our 20th anniversary party a couple of months ago," Salmon said, which had effectively served as "our goodbye".

Crowds filled the store and were grabbing anything with a Colette logo to keep as souvenirs as staff ushered them to the till to package up their purchases. "We are still operating with the same energy up until 20 December," Salmon commented. Of his own future Salmon simply said "don't know yet".

Colette is currently in talks with Kering-owned Saint Laurent, a brand it has long since sold at the store, to take over the property. In its closure statement the company said that the deal "could also represent a very good opportunity for our employees".
