The resale market continues to expand at speed with footwear brand Crocs being its latest entrant, in partnership with popular resale platform thredUp.

As part of Crocs' commitment to become a net zero company by 2030, the Clean Out program will allow customers to create prepaid shipping labels and donate any brand of apparel, shoes and accessories.

While customers are encouraged to donate Crocs shoes, it is not a requirement to participate in the program. Items will pass through rigorous quality inspection before being listed online. Crocs will then provide shopping credits to donating customers which can be used to purchase items online or in-store at its retailers.

The partnership furthers Crocs' sustainability work, which aims to address the entire value chain, includes investments in sustainable materials and product afterlife solutions. The footwear brand also donates unsellable Crocs shoes to those in need to keep items in use and out of landfills.

Michelle PooleBrand President at Crocs, said: "Crocs shoes are incredibly durable and perfectly built for a second life, so encouraging customers to consider reuse is extremely important to us.

"Crocs and thredUP are both committed to keeping products in use and out of landfills, and we're thrilled to partner with thredUP to reduce our environmental footprint and bring us one step closer to achieving our net zero goal by taking action to create a more comfortable world."

The resale-as-a-service platform has leveraged on the resale market in recent weeks. Recent collaborations with companies include Walmart, Everlane, Farfetch, Gap and Adidas as the circular economy gains traction in the industry.

Pooja Sethi, Senior Vice President and General Manager of RaaS at thredUP, said: "Crocs has put tremendous emphasis around reducing environmental impact and waste, and thredUP is humbled to be part of their sustainability journey. By enabling Crocs customers to give preloved items a second life through thredUP's Resale-as-a-Service, we're promoting reuse and inching closer to a more circular future for fashion."
