Coperni moves into rental in partnership with HURR

Coperni, the viral French fashion brand that steals the show at Paris Fashion Week with its creative catwalk activations, has launched its first collection for rental in partnership with rental platform HURR.

A favourite of Gen Z style icons Dua Lipa and Bella Hadid, the brand has made available a selection of items from its SS23 collection for rental, including its signature Swipe bag, which can be rented for four days for £48.30. Other items on the platform include a range of body-con dresses and a faux fur belted maxi coat.

Coperni was founded by creative director Sébastien Meyer and CEO Arnaud Vaillant Meyer, former classmates at Mod’art International Paris. Along with brands like fellow French label Jacquemus, it is part of a new wave of luxury brands targeting Gen Z consumers.

The brand was initially launched in 2013 but it was put on ice while the founders took on the roles of creative directors at Courrèges from 2015 to 2017. It then relaunched Coperni in 2018, with the backing of accelerator Tomorrow.

The Micro Baguette Swipe Bag

Coperni caused a sensation at Paris Fashion Week in September 2022 (for its SS23 collection) by spray painting a white dress onto supermodel Bella Hadid. The liquid, which contained cotton and synthetic fibres, suspended in a polymer solution, evaporates when it makes contact with the body and transformed into a jersey-like dress.

A solid gold version of the Swipe bag, priced at €100,000, also appeared in the show and was said to have been melted down afterwards.

For the most recent show in February, the brand partnered with Boston Dynamics to create robots, know as 'Spots', for the catwalk. The four-legged Spots interacted with the models, helping them remove coats and carrying their bags. The activation was designed to show that humans and technology can live in harmony.

Retail prices for Coperni range from around £500 for a dress and £430 for a mini Swipe bag. UK stockists include Selfridges and Net-A-Porter. The rental collection at HURR can be viewed here.
