Copenhagen Fashion Week reveals major milestones in annual sustainability report

Copenhagen Fashion Week has released its annual sustainability report, which gives an update on the second year of its 2020-2022 Sustainability Action Plan.

Launched in January 2020, the action plan aims to introduce long-term change and reinvent Copenhagen Fashion Week by reducing negative impacts, innovating its business model and accelerating industry change.

Outlined by CPHFW, the report highlights its second year "major milestones", which saw the organisation launch a series of new partnerships around the 2023 sustainability requirements.

The 2023 sustainability requirements were selected by a government-funded programme, which aims to train 50 SMEs in the Danish industry to lead targeted action. The requirements were then reviewed by a panel of international experts, including Orsola de Castro of Fashion Revolution and Professor Dilys Williams from the Centre for Sustainable Fashion.

In 2021, Copenhagen Fashion Week partnered with trade fair Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (CIFF), the Norwegian Fashion Hub, Oslo Runway and the Icelandic Fasion Council, who will all implement the sustainability requirements too.

Copenhagen Fashion Week also revealed it will deliver on most of its own targets, with 19 out of 21 targets reached. This includes two targets in process, one target postponed and one target not reached.

Looking ahead, CPHFW aims to introduce new targets and refine its strategy for 2023 - 2025. Another major focus for the organisation will be to continue pursuing international partnerships to amplify the impact of the 2023 sustainability requirements and drive change in the industry at a global scale.

Cecilie Thorsmark, CEO at Copenhagen Fashion Week, said: "The progress made during the second year of our Sustainability Action Plan shows the potential of our strategy and three-year targets to inspire and push fashion companies to embrace more responsible business practices.

"We strongly believe that the new Nordic partnerships we entered around the 2023 sustainability requirements set a major milestone that fosters stronger industry alignment and we're very excited to seek out new partnerships internationally during this coming year."
