Coal Drops Yard signs Anthropologie for anchor unit

The King’s Cross Group, which owns Coal Drops Yard in north London, has today announced it has signed lifestyle brand Anthropologie for a 2,852 sq ft anchor unit at the shopping and F&B destination.

The internationally recognised brand, which is owned by URBN (Urban Outfitters, Inc.), is best known for its distinctive womenswear, homeware and accessories, and the new store will be “built around the in-person experience the brand is known for”.

Matt Hilgeman, Managing Director at Anthropologie, said: “We’re excited to open our 21st UK store in Coal Drops Yard, a highly curated, design-led destination in central London that aligns with our creative, culture-driven community.

“We look forward to joining this vibrant retail destination and bringing Anthropologie into a space that feels culturally relevant and creatively inspiring.”

In addition to the Anthropologie signing, the King’s Cross Group has revealed that current tenant the Outsiders Store, which specialises in outdoor apparel and kit for camping, hiking, and climbing, will be upsizing to a 3,000 sq ft unit at Coal Drops Yard, having committed to a new 10-year lease.

Jane Macdiarmid, Head of Retail at The King’s Cross Group, said: “Coal Drops Yard works best when there is a genuine sense of discovery - where established names sit alongside independents people actively seek out.

“Anthropologie and the Outsiders Store each add something different, and together they create more reasons to come here, spend time and keep coming back.

“We are curating a mix that reflects how people want to use King’s Cross today - whether that’s shopping, eating, meeting friends or discovering somewhere new. It’s a place for our whole community, from visitors to the residents, students and businesses who are here every day.”

The new lettings, which also include La Maritxu cheesecakes, which has agreed a new 10-year lease in a prime position on Bagley Walk, follow a year of strong trading for Coal Drops Yard, where sales grew 20% year-on-year.
