Coach: LCM AW16 Menswear Review

David Watts
15 January 2016

Celebrating 75 years of craftsmanship Coach launched its 1941 collection with womenswear for SS15.  Under the stewardship of Executive Creative Director Stuart Vevers, this lesser known brand (in Europe) has begun to make both editors and consumers sit up and take notice. The menswear offering is getting better each season and the AW16 was a stand out collection.

Vevers joined Coach in September 2013 and has full creative control for men's and women's collections, Brand imagery and Store environments and is very well placed having put in his time at two profile brands well known for leather goods, Loewe and Mulberry.

Interestingly, not many bags or accessories were seen on the menswear catwalk instead Vevers decided to focus on outerwear that came in countless guises, and getting better as the show went on. Leather, shearling, puffer, technical wool and fleecy teddybear fabrics with contrast linings, fur trims and patchwork (a nod to the 70s vibe this season) were included and there was certainly something for every winter need.

Standout pieces were the pale yellow fur-trimmed puffer coat and the parka lined with cream Teddybear fleece. But this collection was all expertly anchored with key separates, like tipped-rib crew necks featuring fun Dinosaur and Rocket graphics, black and red lumberjack plaid henley and crewe necks, perfectly tailored navy button-thru overshirts with leather stitched pocket detail. And a deep red bucket tote bag with stud and suede detail hinted at some very cool leather accessories for AW16.

Without any doubt Coach is a brand to be watching for Autumn/Winter and under Vevers is definitely on the ascendent for sure!
