Coach announces Selena Gomez as new face of the brand
US luxury group Coach has named Selena Gomez as its new face in a wide-ranging collaboration that will first see the actress and singer front its Autumn 17 campaign.
Gomez will also work with the brand's British executive creative director Stuart Vevers on a "special design project" and will partner with the Coach Foundation in its support of Step Up, a US organization dedicated to the empowerment of teen girls from under-resourced communities.
Coach made the announcement as it wraps up its 75th anniversary year. As part of the celebrations, last week it unveiled its women's pre-Fall 17 and men's Fall 17 collections at a special catwalk show in New York attended by a raft of high profile celebrities.
Gomez said she was excited to be working with the brand. "[I] love the clothes and accessories designed by Stuart Vevers. I am especially looking forward to getting to know the Coach team as well as becoming involved in the Foundation's support of Step Up. On top of all that, collaborating on a piece with Stuart for next fall makes this beyond special to me," she added.
Vevers described Gomez as a "true Coach Girl". "The woman I design for is authentic, honest and possesses a romantic charm mixed with a cool, confident attitude. Selena embodies all of these qualities perfectly," he said.
Coach was founded in 1941 and in 2015 it acquired footwear brand Stuart Weitzman. It has just open a flagship Coach and Stuart Weitzman store on London's Regent Street. This summer it was believed to have made several informal take-over approached for British luxury house Burberry but was rebuffed.
