Charity seeks to support the homeless by selling old stock from retailers

Sutton Night Watch Homeless Charity has launched an appeal for businesses to donate old season stock, for them to sell via the new SNWOutlet platform.

The SNWOutlet features fashion samples, past season items, excess to requirement stock, together with pre-loved fabulous personal cast off’s from the general public. Every item is priced realistically to allow for a good turnover.

Situated in the south London suburbs of Wallington, part of the London borough of Sutton, SNW is open to both rough sleepers, and the vulnerable, providing nourishing meals, bags of take away grocery shopping, use of showers and laundry facilities, and a clothing & toiletries store.

After a first phase of advertising and asking for donations of new and pre-loved fashion, footwear and accessories, the response received from both the general public and fashion industry was tremendously generous, with Phase Eight offering a large quantity of old stock.

Denise Royce, Retail Procurement Manager at Sutton Night Watch Homeless Charity, told TheIndustry.fashion: "Coronavirus has impacted enormously on the SNW charity. Some of the service users classed as vulnerable do have a room, a share in a sparsely fitted flat, sofa surf, or live in a hostel – hostels are nothing as you imagine and many prefer to rough sleep than hostel living.

"The vulnerable are usually ill equipped and without the where-with-all for dealing with the trials tribulations and hurdles of everyday life. COVID-19 has seen a large rise in visitors to our charity door which we have been supplying with food parcels.

"In addition to the running costs, upkeep and being depended upon by so many, we also have a long term goal of replicating the premises we have throughout other London boroughs."

Nadine Kennedy, Director at Sutton Night Watch, added: “When businesses like Phase Eight and others support us in creative ways like this, it literally can mean the difference between surviving & thriving for us and in turn for our service users. Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who has donated items for the website."

The charity is still seeking donations for its' online store, and is looking into the possibility of seeking a retail location that could be donated to them to trade from, store garments and run the website from.

With many landlords losing tenants for their stores and no future occupants lined up, the opportunities to boost reputation for landlords is high in the charity sector.

The potential store would not run a traditionally perceived charity shop, but on the lines of a shop selling new quality high street brands, of fashion, footwear & accessories, together with higher end designer & vintage items.
