Chanel issues apology and agrees to credit Fair Isle knitter after copying claims

Earlier this week Fair Isle knit designer Mati Ventrillon claimed designs that bore a striking resemblance to her own were showcased at Chanel's recent Métiers d’Art catwalk show in Rome (pictured above). Chanel has now acknowledged that claim and apologised.

Ventrillon vented her frustration on her Facebook page saying representatives from Chanel had visited Fair Isle and purchased some of her knitwear this summer for research purposes. A black and white sleeveless sweater was very similar to her own design and pattern arrangement, she said.

It is not known whether Ventrillon's designs were protected or if she intended to take formal legal action but the French fashion house has nonetheless issued an apology and agreed to credit Ventrillon's designs, according to this report just posted on YouTube by Newsy Business.
