Cornish direct to consumer brand Celtic & Co., which specialises in luxury British sheepskin slippers and footwear, as well as men’s and womenswear and homeware made from all-natural fibres, saw full year sales growth of 75% from £8.9m in 2019 to £15.5m in 2020.

International sales exceeded 31% of all sales in 2020 and grew by 88% year-on-year – from £2.6m in 2019 to £4.9m in 2020, as customers sought comfortable clothing and footwear during the lockdowns.

The company has sent orders to over 60 countries across the globe and, despite the challenges of running the business that the Covid-19 pandemic has presented, sales were hugely helped by the shift towards online shopping.

Co-founder of Celtic & Co., Nick Whitworth, who has been running the company for the past 30 years with his wife Kath in their home town of Newquay, said: “Our strategy is to focus on a wide range of markets and opportunities to ensure we are not over reliant on one market or territory. A key part of this strategy is international growth. We will be targeting a further 20% increase in net sales and increased profitability in 2021.

The couple were presented with their second Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade, one of the most prestigious business awards in the country, in 2020, after having received it in 2018 for the first time.
