Glasgow Rangers Football Club has announced that premium British sportswear brand Castore is to be its new official kit supplier in a "multi-year partnership,” which will commence with the 2020-21 season.

Scottish tennis star Andy Murray is a shareholder in Castore, which was founded by brothers and former athletes Tom and Phil Beahon in 2015. Murray also wears Castore kit and is a brand ambassador.

Rangers manager and Liverpool football legend, Steven Gerrard, has told the Rangers website that the deal was “a significant moment for our football club”.

Castore co-founder, Tom Beahon, added: "In our search for our first elite club, nobody came close to matching Rangers. Partnering with Rangers is a seminal milestone."

Danish sportswear brand Hummel was Rangers' kit partner in 2019-20, but the club said it would have new suppliers for next season after “the conclusion of all existing contracts.” Castore has won the race for the new deal.

Murray invested in the brand in March 2019 and is also a board adviser. Fellow investors include former Saatchi & Saatchi chief executive, Robert Senior and Net-A-Porter investor, Arnaud Massenet.

After securing the investment the company said it would be seeking out partnerships with other athletes and would move into other categories including womenswear.

It is a digital first brand but has stockists, including luxury sites Mr Porter, Selfridges and Matchesfashion.com, that make the brand available in 40 countries. It also has physical stores on London's King's Road and at Liverpool ONE.

The move for such a premium brand to sponsor a football club's kit is an unusual and has prompted speculation on social media among Rangers fans about the potential price point of replica kit.
