Cambridge Satchel continues UK retail expansion with new Windsor store
British leather goods company Cambridge Satchel, which was acquired by French textile giant Chargeurs in 2022, has opened its fourth UK store at 51 Windsor Royal in Berkshire.
Following Cambridge Satchel’s Covent Garden, Cambridge, and Leeds stores, the new 497 sq ft space furthers expands the brand’s UK retail presence, with more in the pipeline.
Housed in the Grade II listed splendour of Windsor Royal Station, the company is describing the opening as its "most ambitious store design to date".
Under the direction of Cambridge Satchel CEO, Carine de Koenigswarter, architects Atelier A&D have created a "bold and beautiful design", taking inspiration from the Art Deco movement.
A double height ceiling has been reinstated to showcase the double-sided entry to the space, while a concealed and illuminated coffer at a high level creates an extra sense of lightness and height.
Handcrafted in the UK, Cambridge Satchel’s range of women’s and men’s collections include classic crossbody bags, satchels, handbags, tote bags, backpacks, briefcases, trunks and a range of small leather goods.
In the new store, the listed fireplace has been reinstated and offset with a large lightbox showcasing the brand’s dynamic products, and a feature wall showcases a display and storage for Cambridge Satchel’s products.
The store also offers personalisation for all customers with an in-house embossing service. There is also a "central exploded circle of custom-made joinery", showcasing small leather goods and charms.
The new Windsor store offers shoppers the complete Cambridge Satchel collection in addition to exclusively designed product that nod to the royal history of the town, including Union Jack heart, crown, corgi and guardsman charms.
Carine de Koenigswarter said: "As a city known for its rich British history and tradition of education, our Windsor location reflects Cambridge Satchel's dedication to scholarship and British craftsmanship, offering international visitors the chance to own a piece of what makes Britishness so unique.
"Following the successful openings in Leeds and now Windsor, we are continuing to expand our retail presence in key cities, bringing joy to our clients through thoughtfully curated locations."
