Burberry tops British brands league table on Instagram

Luxury fashion house Burberry has retained its position as the top British brand on Instagram with 10.4m followers in a list that is dominated by fashion and automotive brands.

Social media analytics company Iconosquare has unveiled its second annual British brands list, which is once again topped by Burberry, followed by Topshop (9.2m followers), Jimmy Choo (7.3m) and ASOS (6.6m). Alexander McQueen (5.3m) and Stella McCartney (4.5m) also feature in the Top 10.

However Iconosquare points out that British brands have a long way to go before they catch up with major US and other international brands on the platform. Nike has 75.2m followers, Victoria's Secret has 57.7m and Chanel has 25m followers.

Romain Ouzeau, CEO of Iconosquare, commented: “A strong social media presence is an essential component of any successful marketing strategy. The top ten most popular British brands on Instagram have all been able to successfully promote aspirational lifestyles to a wide audience of people and will reap rewards this holiday season.

"Burberry should be especially pleased with their efforts as they have topped our British brands on Instagram study for the second year running and boosted their follower count by over 2m over 12 months.”
