Burberry has been recognised as the industry leader in the 2016 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) in the "Consumer Durables and Apparel" sector.

This is the second year in a row that Burberry has been included in the index, which the company said was a reflection of its "strong commitment to continuously explore more productive and sustainable ways of working".

Burberry achieved the best scores in the following categories:

  • Economic Dimension - Customer Relationship Management
  • Economic Dimension - Tax Strategy
  • Environmental Dimension - Best score for overall dimension
  • Environmental Dimension - Environmental Reporting
  • Social Dimension - Best score for overall dimension
  • Social Dimension - Stakeholder Engagement

The DSJI, which was launched in 1999, serves as a benchmark for asset managers who integrate sustainability considerations into their investment decision-making. It is a significant global metric, enabling investors to analyse the many economic, environmental and social factors that are relevant to companies’ success.

This latest accolade is one in a line of many for the British luxury house in the field of sustainability. It is also
listed in the FTSE4Good Index and the MSCI Global Sustainability Index Series, is a participant of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and a member of the UN Global Compact, the Ethical Trading Initiative and the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC).

Burberry was also recognised in RobecoSAM’s 2016 Sustainability Yearbook as "Industry Mover, Bronze Class" in the Textiles, Apparel and Luxury Goods category, for having achieved the largest proportional improvement in its sustainability performance.
