Burberry poaches Alexandra McCauley from Chanel

Chloe Burney
25 May 2023

Luxury fashion house Burberry has today announced the appointment of Alexandra McCauley as Chief People Officer, effective 15 November 2023.

McCauley will be responsible for all aspects of Burberry’s 'People' strategy globally. She will join the Executive Committee and will report directly to Burberry Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Akeroyd.

She is currently Head of Global Diversity and Inclusion and Global People Communications and Engagement at the French luxury brand Chanel. McCauley began her career as a labour and employment lawyer in New York, subsequently moving on to senior HR and labour relations roles at NBC Universal.

Jonathan Akeroyd, CEO of Burberry, commented: "I am delighted to welcome Alex to Burberry. Alex has a wealth of experience in building human and inclusive cultures within creative businesses, and she has a passion for helping people and organisations achieve their highest potential.

"I am looking forward to working with her to drive our strategy forward and realise our ambitions in this next phase."

This follows last week's news that Burberry sales jumped 10% on a reported basis to £3.09 billion in the year ending 1 April 2023. The company reported accelerated growth in the final quarter as China bounced back from Covid restrictions and consumers responded positively to the British luxury house's new creative vision.
