Burberry launches £90 face mask

Burberry has launched a collection of face masks in its signature check print.

Burberry has become the first luxury fashion brand to launch a collection of designer face masks, retailing at £90.

The masks have been created from excess fabric “enhanced with antimicrobial technology”, and is available in the luxury brand’s classic beige checks and in pale blue.

Burberry said that it will donate 20% of the retail price of each face mask to its Burberry Foundation COVID-19 Community Fund, which helps health care workers and individuals negatively impacted by the pandemic.

A number of smaller fashion brands have introduced not-for-profit face coverings.

In June, luxury fashion designers Halpern, Julien Macdonald, Liam Hodges, Mulberry, RAEBURN and RIXO teamed up with the British Fashion Council to launch the “Great British Designer Face Coverings: Reusable, for People and Planet” – a campaign that aimed to raise £1 million for charity through the sale of protective face masks.

Some high-end designers have also tapped into the face covering market before the pandemic, including Marine Serre and Off-White.

The Coronavirus pandemic has lead to an influx of labels and brands making masks and face coverings as part of their current offerings. This has led to a number of fashion and beauty retailers capitalising on this new opportunity and rushing to produce masks for both healthcare workers and consumers.
