Burberry announces board changes

Burberry has announced that Jeremy Darroch, Independent Non-Executive Director and Senior Independent Director, will stand down from its board at its AGM in July.

Darroch, who is the CEO of broadcaster Sky, joined the luxury brand's Board in February 2014 becoming Senior Independent Director on 1 July 2017. He also served as Chair of the Audit Committee from 1 August 2016 to 6 February 2019.

He will be replaced by Dame Carolyn McCall, who has been an Independent Non-Executive Director since 1 September 2014. Dame Carolyn is the CEO of ITV and a former CEO of easyJet.

Burberry chairman Gerry Murphy said: "On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Jeremy for his oustanding contribution to Burberry's development over the last six years. We shall miss his wisdom and experience and we wish him the very best for the future."

The news comes after the business posted sales down 3% at £2.6bn in the year to March, with CEO Marco Gobbetti saying it will take some time for it to "heal" from the COVID-19 crisis.
