Burberry: Ad campaign and instant collection unveiled

Sandra Halliday
16 August 2016

There’s a huge buzz around this runway season as it’s the one where the whole "show now, buy now, wear now" movement really kicks in. And there’s a huge buzz around the ad campaigns that are being released thick and fast at the moment.

So when Burberry releases teaser images from its upcoming collection via its latest ad campaign, the buzz reaches giant beehive level. Embargoed until 08:00 this morning, the campaign was shot by Mario Testino (who else?) and features Jean Campbell, Cavan McCarthy and Alex Dragulele.

Burberry says the collection is influenced by Virginia Woolf's Orlando, contrasting masculine and feminine styles across different periods in history, which is a trend I’ve noticed creeping in lately. The recent couture collections from luxe stalwart Valentino to relative couture newcomer Giles Deacon had their fair share of ruff collars, Jacobean clerical style and 18th century-military looks too. But back with Burberry, the campaign was shot in Liverpool’s Walker Art Gallery, which serves as a suitably historic backdrop to the collection.

Testino has also captured a series of portraits of Burberry artisans, the men and women from mills and factories across England, Scotland, and Italy who make many of Burberry’s products. To launch the campaign, Burberry has included a portrait of the pattern maker for its newest bag, The Bridle.

The complete set of images will launch straight after the new collection has been shown during London Fashion Week on 19 September, to coincide with the collection going on sale worldwide.
