Browns partners with Designers’ Nest for exclusive collection by Nordic fashion graduate

Luxury fashion retailer Browns has partnered with Designers’ Nest, a talent support platform for Nordic fashion graduates, which is seeing Swedish School of Textiles alumna, Emma Gudmundson, create an exclusive collection for Browns this summer.

Ida Petersson, Womenswear and Menswear Buying Director at Browns, sits on the jury for the Designers’ Nest awards, and she personally selected Gudmundson who is designing an exclusive capsule of unique handmade dresses in collaboration with the Browns buying team, which will launch with the retailer in July, 2021.

Browns, which is known for its support and championing of new talent, joined the Designers’ Nest initiative to offer graduates an opportunity to produce, showcase and sell their designs on an international scale. Gudmundson will be supported with pre-payment as well as mentoring from all aspects of the Browns business from buying to brand engagement.

Petersson said: “I first got involved with Designers’ Nest as a way to give back to the industry and support the next generation of graduate talent. Through this initiative we hope to provide an open, nurturing space for these young designers, allowing them to gain hands on experience as they make their first steps into the industry.

“Since joining the panel three years ago I have seen a wealth of talent, with this year proving to be the strongest line-up yet. Emma’s work is sexy, visual and sustainable knitwear that doesn’t look like anything I’ve seen before. I was blown away with the intricacies of the construction and the one-off nature of each design.

“At Browns, we have a real opportunity to showcase designers both established and emerging, at any scale, and I can’t think of anything more beautiful than investing in a dress made-by-hand as a labour of love, a truly unique experience within every piece.”
