Fashion boutique Browns is launching an exclusive capsule collection as part of its Conscious Edit, partnering with five established designers and newcomers to create t-shirts inspired by what they are grateful for this new year.

For the capsule, titled Gra-T-tude, Browns commissioned and collaborated with Bethany Williams, J.W. Anderson, Martine Rose, Phipps and Robyn Lynch, with each designer using their platform in a different way to express how fashion could be produced and consumed consciously.

All the designers strive to encourage more sustainable processes, with Martine Rose using deadstock fabric, Robyn Lynch supporting a transparent supply chain in America and Bethany Williams partnering with different charities each season.

Speaking on what inspired them, Bethany Williams said she wanted to pay homage to her community and thank them for their support. "I’ve portrayed this with a visual flowchart diagram and imagery, that explains our network and system of production for which we are grateful for," she commented.

For J.W. Anderson, lockdown was a chance for reflection, and he chose to share his mantra "Keep Looking Up", while Robyn Lynch took inspiration from his mam’s hand-me-downs from when she was about 18 years old, highlighting how cherishing clothing over a long time is a sustainable act. Martine Rose commented that she is most grateful for her children who contributed to her final design. Spencer Phipps of Phipps created a hand dyed organic cotton that emphasised his own sense of gratitude towards the universe.
