After speaking at The Industry last month, Browns – creative director, Caroline Burstein is a member – was awarded the ‘Prestigious Retailer Award’ at the NatWest UK Fashion & Textile Awards on Thursday night. In light of the news that the store, famously known for its incredibly successful and privately-owned status, was being bought out by e-commerce giant Farfetch.com, we were delighted to hear that the retail emporium was being awarded one last gong – congrats, Caroline and all the team at Browns!
Browns was presented the trophy by no other than the UKFT Awards president, HRH The Princess Royal. The event was held at Tobacco Dock and was hosted by Jack Guinness and Amber Le Bon. Industry members spotted at the event included retail entrepreneur and former British Fashion Council chairman, Harold Tillman.
However, the UKFT Awards was not the only awards ceremony on The Industry’s radar on Thursday night. After we attended partner event, Decoded Fashion’s London summit, the fashion and tech conference held its inaugural Fashion Futures ceremony, a new awards initiative put on in partnership with the British Fashion Council. While sadly no Industry members made the winners list, ASOS (where Industry member, Nick Robertson is CEO) made the shortlist for his company’s collaboration with wireWAX and former Industry Master Class speakers, Appear Here was nominated for the ‘Most Innovative New Digital Project’. Industry member and editor of GQ, Dylan Jones also sat on the judging panel.
Liz Bacelar, president and founder of Decoded Fashion, described the awards as a “milestone” in how the worlds of fashion and tech “are colliding and how both industries are becoming essential to each other’s success.” After attending last week’s conference, we can say we well and truly agree.
