British Vogue documentary to air on 8 September

A two-part observational documentary giving an inside view of life at British Vogue will air on BBC2 on 8 September at 9pm.

Absolutely Fashion: Inside British Vogue was created by filmmaker Richard Marcer who was, over nine months, given unprecedented behind the scenes access to the Condé Nast-owned publication which is celebrating its centenary this year.

Highlights include interviews with editor in chief Alexandra Shulman and the magazine's key contributors as well as back-stage footage from photoshoots, including one with Kate Moss.

Shulman described the experience as both "intriguing and testing" on Vogue's website. "At Vogue we are more used to being behind the lens than in front of it," she said. "The process of being filmed over such a long period of time was intriguing although at times, testing."

This is the first time that British Vogue has allowed a film crew access but Tatler, also part of Condé Nast's British stable, was the subject of a BBC2 documentary in 2014 called "Posh People: Inside Tatler".

US Vogue has submitted itself to the documentary process several times in recent years. Filmmaker RJ Cutler followed its editor in chief Anna Wintour as she and her team created their biggest edition to date in 2009 for The September Issue. The film was a critical success and made a star of creative director Grace Coddington.

In 2012 directors Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey created In Vogue: The Editor's Eye, which shone a spotlight on some of publications most successful editors past and present. Once again this year Anna Wintour was the star of Andrew Rossi's film The First Monday in May, which followed the process of organising one of fashion's most presitigious annual events, The Met Gala.
