The Board of The British Land Company has announced the appointment of Loraine Woodhouse as a Non-Executive Director, with effect from 1 March 2021.

Woodhouse will chair the Audit Committee from 31 March at which time Preben Prebensen will step down from his role as interim Chair of Audit but remain a member of the Committee.

She brings to the business experience in various finance roles, including her current role as Chief Financial Officer of Halfords Group. Prior to joining Halfords, Woodhouse spent five years in senior finance within the John Lewis Partnership.

In 2014 Loraine was appointed Acting Group Finance Director and then, subsequently, Finance Director of Waitrose. Prior to that, Loraine was Chief Financial Officer of Hobbs, Finance Director of Capital Shopping Centres Limited and Finance Director of Costa Coffee Limited.

Commenting on the appointment, Tim Score, Chairman of British Land, said: "I am delighted to welcome Loraine to the British Land Board and as Chair of our Audit Committee. She has extensive experience across all finance disciplines and has worked within many different sectors including real estate and retail”.

Last month, British Land announced the appointment of Bhavesh Mistry as its new Chief Financial Officer, who will join the company later in 2021.

Finance continues to be an important topic for British Land, after it confirmed it had managed to collect less than half of the rent it is due from the shops and other retail outlets that rent its space, as two-thirds of them were forced to close in January.
