British fashion brand named highest scoring fashion B Corp globally
House of Baukjen, the purpose-driven London-based fashion brand, has been recognised as the highest-scoring fashion SME B Corp globally.
Their B Corp score is 153.6, which means it has joined the top five global fashion B Corp companies including Patagonia.
House of Baukjen’s score soared by 42% following its most recent recertification, highlighting its dedication to people and the planet.
Baukjen and Isabella Oliver, collectively known as House of Baukjen, have reached this milestone by adding a fourth ‘Impact Business Model’ (IBM) to their B Corp profile – a rare feat in the B Corp community.
Baukjen has begun sourcing with Portuguese manufacturing facilities to integrate an innovative dyeing auxiliary into their current practices. This game-changing addition requires fewer and cooler washes, slashing supplier and dyehouse emissions by 50%. According to the House of Baukjen sustainability department, if adopted industry-wide, this auxiliary could cut the global fashion sector’s carbon footprint by 6.7%. This innovation has not only transformed their sustainability practices but also propelled their B Corp score.
Geoff van Sonsbeeck, CEO & Co-Founder of House of Baukjen, said: "We are incredibly proud of this achievement. You cannot cheat a B Corp certification, you can't greenwash this - you have to earn it. This recognition proves our dedication to truly balancing people, planet, and profit."
B Corp certification is among the most demanding social and environmental certifications, requiring a rigorous application process addressing every aspect of the business in five key impact areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers.
Baukjen de Swaan Arons, Co-founder and Creative Director of House of Baukjen, added: "We would like to thank every member of the team, our suppliers, and our customers. Without them, this would not have been possible. We are very proud of our B Corp score, however, we will continue to seek improvements that make the fashion industry kinder to the planet and the people. But for now, a huge thank you to everyone who helped us achieve this!"
