British designer Kim Jones of Dior Man and Fendi among fashion honorees

British designer Kim Jones, who is both artistic director at Dior Man and artistic director for haute couture, ready-to-wear and fur collections for women at Fendi, has been awarded the OBE in the delayed Queen's Birthday Honours List for 2020. He was among a number of fashion figures to be recognised.

Jones is one of the most pre-eminent British fashion designers, having previously held senior roles at Louis Vuitton, Dunhill, Topman and Umbro. His ability to blend a streetwear and luxury aesthetic has made him one of the most sought after designers in the business and recently LVMH added the Fendi role - previously held by the legendary Karl Lagerfeld - to his remit.

The 41-year-old designer originally studied graphic design and photography at Camberwell College of Art before moving to Central Saint Martins to complete his MA in menswear. After graduating he launched his owned label showing at the Fashion East platform for new talent during London Fashion Week.

He went on to collaborate or work with a raft of brands such as Umbro, Topman, Mulberry and Hugo Boss before being appointed by Dunhill in 2008. He joined Louis Vuitton in 2011 working alongside Marc Jacobs and in 2018 he moved within the LVMH empire to head up Dior Man. Just last month he was awarded the Fendi role.

To mark the occasion Jones posted a simple message saying "Thank you very much!" on his Instagram page underneath a picture of his letter from the Palace informing him of his award.

Also recognised in the honours, which were delayed as a result of the COVID crisis, was designer Erdem Moralioglu, founder of the Erdem label, who was awarded the MBE. The designer is celebrating 15 years of his London-based label and said he felt privileged to have been able to build an independent British fashion label.

UKFT chairman Nigel Lugg also received the OBE for services to the fashion and textile industry and the COVID-19 response in a set of awards that placed the emphasis on those that had gone above and beyond during the crisis. John Smedley Managing Director Ian Maclean, who is also UKFT’s Vice Chairman, has been awarded an MBE for services to the textile industry and his company’s role in producing scrubs for the NHS during the crisis.

Founder of sustainable children's brand Frugi, Lucy Jewson, was awarded the MBE for services to ethical clothing design and legendary catwalk photographer Chris Moore also received an MBE.

Meanwhile, arguably Britain's best known fashion designer Sir Paul Smith, received the Companion of Honour to add to the Knighood he was awarded in 2001. Sir Paul is celebrating 50 years in the business this year and recently established the Paul Smith Foundation where he intends to share advice with creative people.
