British couturiers Ralph & Russo design Meghan Markle's wedding dress

Meghan Markle will be wearing a dress designed by British couturiers Ralph & Russo when she marries Prince Harry on 19 May, according to reports this weekend.

It is said the heavily beaded dress will cost £100,000 (which will be covered by Prince Harry and his family) and will be worn by Markle for the wedding ceremony at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle and the reception that takes place immediately afterwards. She will change into a different outfit for the private evening reception at Frogmore House.

A number of British designers and labels had been linked with landing the commission including Victoria Beckham, Erdem, Jenny Packham, Alexander McQueen and Burberry, along with London-based French designer Roland Mouret.

At the last major royal wedding, Kate Middleton wore Alexander McQueen, designed by Sarah Burton, to marry Prince William at St Paul's Cathedral in 2011. The Princes' mother, the then Lady Diana, wore a gown designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel to marry Prince Charles in 1981.

Markle sparked speculation that Ralph & Russo might be her designer of choice when she wore a black semi-sheer dress with gold embroidery from the British design duo for her official engagement portrait.

Ralph & Russo was founded by Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo in 2007 and shows its couture line in Paris. However it recently launched a ready-to-wear collection, which made its debut at London Fashion Week last September.

The designer of royal wedding dresses are usually a heavily guarded secret but the news of Markle's designer of choice was broken by the Daily Mail this morning.
