Brave Soul owner Whispering Smith sees sharp sales rise and 2,000 new accounts

UK fast fashion wholesale importers and suppliers Whispering Smith, owner and distributor of young fashion brand Brave Soul, has reported buoyant sales and a huge surge of over 2,000 new accounts since COVID-19 struck.

Whispering Smith sells globally and distributes its own brand, Brave Soul, to top retail and ecommerce brands including ASOS, Boohoo, Zalando, La Moda and Namshi.

The Manchester based clothing company, which was founded in 1967, also sells and distributes white label clothing to high street and e-commerce brands across the globe, and last month sold close to 1.5m units of womenswear, up 41% from last year, while men’s saw a 27% increase.

The registering of over 2,000 new trade accounts since April has been facilitated by Whispering Smith’s new website and "Buyer’s Portal", which gives its customers access to thousands of stocked styles, its successful private label facility and a bespoke ‘made to order’ service.

Supported by Whispering Smith’s sales team, the new portal allows buyers to select styles remotely, with real-time stock status, and the capacity for its customers to raise an order that could be with them as fast as the following day.

This digital solution was activated swiftly post-lockdown when buyer meetings at its five international showrooms could no longer take place face-to-face.

Whispering Smith Director, Rohil Kumar, said: “We’ve worked flat-out to deliver and promote a system designed to showcase our designs, fulfil our buyers’ needs and capitalise on demand with ‘just in time’ inventory. A customer’s selections can be saved, exported and raised in just a few clicks – with the ability of having the stock in their warehouse the next day.”

Prior to COVID-19, Whispering Smith also dramatically increased the efficiency of its 500,000 sq ft warehouse, enabling it to maximise stock allocation, streamlining the process of inbound and outbound stock.

The company also says it has attracted new e-tailers that have seen Brave Soul stock on other retailers' websites, and who have needed in demand fashionable - available at short notice.

With no minimum order quantity on over 2,000 in-stock styles of women’s, men’s and kid’s clothing, they are accessible to both independent and major high street retailers.

On the company’s ability to adapt and grow despite the pandemic, Kumar adds: “Being able to forecast what customers want, under the continuously changing COVID-19 guidelines and to manufacturer the correct level of stock, has been a big challenge – but one we’ve risen to.

“It looks as though our retail customers are adapting well to the new landscape, and we take enormous pride in working with them to ensure their own businesses thrive.”
