BHS to be revived online this week

BHS will be unveiled in a new online-only incarnation on Thursday this week; one month after the high street chain closed its last bricks and mortar store.

The new online-only version will begin selling home furnishing and lighting (always a strong suit in the past) with clothing and further homewares lines added in the coming weeks.

Using the bhs.com domain, The British Home Store, is headquartered in London and employs 84 staff. It is owned by the Al Mana Group, a Qatari conglomerate, which created "BHS International" when it bought the BHS brand, BHS.com and its international operations in June following the retailer's collapse into administration.

It will be run by former BHS head of international David Anderson, while Sara Bradley, buying director, and Dave West, head of creative have also been retained.

Most of the team at the new venture are former BHS employees and Anderson told The Guardian that he hoped to employ more as the business grew. He also said the clothing offer would target a younger customer; it is aiming for the 35-plus market where as the former BHS had targeted 45-plus consumers.

Around 11,000 staff lost their jobs when the retailer collapsed this summer following its ill-fated sale for £1 by Sir Philip Green to Dominic Chappell last year. The issue of its huge pension deficit remains unresolved but Sir Philip has vowed he is working on a solution with the relevant authorities.

Former BHS CEO Darren Topp was appointed as CEO of premium womenswear brand LK Bennett earlier this month.
