Men’s and women’s fashion retailer Bershka, part of the Spanish Inditex group, has signed to open a new 11,190 square foot store at St David’s Dewi Sant in Cardiff, a first for the brand in Wales.

It is as yet unconfirmed as to whether the new store will open pre-Christmas or early 2019. Bershka will join the likes of Superdry, which opened its first dedicated Superdry Sport fascia in the UK, at the centre. Bershka will be located on Upper Grand Arcade, adjacent to the regional H&M flagship.

St David’s is anchored by Marks & Spencer, Debenhams and the largest John Lewis outside of London. The centre is also home to a mix of national and international retailers, such as Primark and River Island, in addition to the likes of Hugo Boss, Radley, Vivienne Westwood and Jo Malone.

Bershka was created in April 1998 as a new store and fashion concept, aimed at a young target market. It now has over 1,000 stores in 71 countries around the world. The sales made from Bershka represent 10% of the Inditex group, who’s other brands are ZaraPull & BearMassimo DuttiStradivariusOyshoZara Home and Uterqüe. Inditex is the biggest fashion group in the world, operating over 7,200 stores in 93 markets worldwide.

Speaking on behalf of the St David’s Partnership, a joint venture between Landsec and intu, Colin Flinn, regional managing director - west, commented on the addition: “The status of St David’s as the region’s leading fashion destination is further enhanced by the signing of international brand Bershka. Upper Grand Arcade continues to attract leading names in fashion and we look forward to welcoming Bershka into a trend-setting space with which the brand is synonymous.”

St David’s shopping centre provides more than 1.4m square foot of retail and leisure space and over 180 stores. Since opening its doors in 2009, it has put Cardiff firmly on the map as one of the UK’s best shopping cities and has an annual footfall of 38 million, one of the largest in the UK.
