Belstaff moves operations back to UK and plans for IPO

British motorcycle heritage brand Belstaff has moved its operations back to the UK and is considering floating the business, according to reports.

Founded in 1924 in Staffordshire, the waterproof jacket specialist was acquired in 2011 by JAB Holdings, the holding company of the billionaire German industrialists, the Reimann family. JAB, which also has investments in coffee firm Jacobs Douwe Egberts and luxury footwear business Jimmy Choo, acquired the business from the Malenotti family who had bought the brand in 2004 and repositioned it into the luxury arena.

Chief executive Gavin Haig who took over at Belstaff in 2014, having previously been with the Swiss luxury group Richemont, told The Independent that the firm had transferred its finance offices from Switzerland to London and relocated its trademark back to the UK this month.

“This is the final phase of consolidating our operations back in the UK and is beautifully in line with being a truly British brand,” Haig told The Independent. He went on to say the business was exploring the possibility of an IPO (initial public offering) "with no specific timeline".

Belstaff, which has five stores in the UK, has risen to prominence lately thanks to high profile campaigns featuring style leaders such as David Beckham.
