Battersea Power Station has announced the appointment of James Carragher, formerly Operations Director at Landsec, as its Estates Director, as well as four other key hires to make up its all-new Estate Management team for the next phase of the development.

David Collins joins as Head of Retail and Commercial Services, Yiannis Moraitopolous comes in as Head of Energy Services, Nipa Bhanu is the new Head of Residential Operations and Nadeem Ghous Chaudary is the new Residential Property Manager.

The £9 billion development is Europe’s largest regeneration project, creating a new well-connected, holistic neighbourhood with green open spaces, public squares, restaurants, shops, offices and new homes.

With phase 1 already completed, the first new residents will be moving into the Grade II listed Power Station from this spring, and Electric Boulevard later in the year.

The new hires come as Battersea Power Station looks to open the iconic building to the public for the first time since being decommissioned in the 1980’s. Apple will be taking possession of its 500,000 sq ft office space in the power station later this year, and the Northern Line extension will be operational this autumn.

Simon Murphy, CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company, said: “We are reaching a pivotal moment in the transformation of the Battersea Power Station development as the long-awaited vision for this iconic building and the surrounding area becomes a reality. We will soon be welcoming our first residents into the Power Station and to Electric Boulevard later in the year.

“In line with the progress being made across the site, we are pleased to be strengthening our Estate Management team with this first wave of new hires to be led by James who will be instrumental in overseeing and managing the operational processes involved in the next stages of the project. James and colleagues bring significant experience and expertise, which will be required as we transition towards the opening of the next two phases of the development.”

James Carragher added: “2021 is set to be a hugely transformative year for Battersea Power Station and I am pleased to be joining the team at such an exciting stage in its journey. The next 12 months include several notable milestone moments for the project and I look forward to working with the team to deliver a robust operational strategy to support these."

Despite the challenges presented by the last Covid-19 savaged year, strong progress has continued across the Battersea Power Station development.

Once open to the public, Battersea Power Station will house over 100 shops, bars and restaurants, as well as unique events and leisure spaces, including the Chimney Lift Experience. The glass elevator will transport visitors 109m up inside one of the Power Station’s iconic chimneys before they emerge at the top to enjoy unrivalled 360views of the capital’s skyline.

Residents and visitors to Battersea Power Station will be able to enjoy numerous new green and open public spaces, including the six-acre Power Station Park, which sits directly in front of the building on the banks for the river.
