02 March 2020

Battersea Power Station announced today the first line-up of brands set to open their doors in the iconic Grade II listed building when the redevelopment launches in 2021.

The new openings will be luxury fashion house Hugo Boss, British eyewear brand Finlay & Co., perfume and candlemakers Jo Malone London, beauty powerhouses Space NK and MAC Cosmetics, luxury watch retailer Watches of Switzerland and Japanese casualwear giant Uniqlo – with a 15,000 sq ft flagship store.

The retailers at the £9bn project are set to bring a new energy to the heritage landmark, setting up shop in the two Turbine Halls. Turbine Hall A, which was built in the 1930’s and evokes the Art Deco glamour of the era, will be home to the premium collection of brands, and Turbine Hall B, which was completed in the 1950’s, and has more of a brutalist, industrial look and feel, will house an eclectic range of more contemporary fashion brands.

Dane Butler, co-founder of British eyewear brand Finlay & Co., said: “We're inspired by great design and engineering so it's an honour to be opening a store in a location with so much history and in a building that many consider to be one of the most iconic in London. It's great that it's finally being re-developed into a space to be enjoyed by so many, and even more exciting that Finlay will be opening a store inside one of the beautiful industrial turbine halls.

“Our in-store experience will take inspiration from the landmark’s heritage, whilst ensuring it is a unique and contemporary environment for our customers to discover our own handmade frames, alongside a curated edit of our favourite independent eyewear brands from around the world.”

Brian Duffy, CEO of Watches of Switzerland, commented: “We think the whole project south of the river is an amazing development in all aspects of residential and commercial. We have looked at the Power Station on the landscape for a number of years and never imagined it would become such a retail destination. We are proud to be one of the flagship stores anchored by the country’s number one luxury watch brand, Rolex.”

Once open, the Power Station will be home to over a hundred established, luxury and emerging retail, food and leisure brands, providing a space for new, unique concepts and creative designs that will complement the host of shops and restaurants already open at Circus West Village, the first chapter in this redevelopment.

Simon Murphy, CEO at Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC), said: “We are delighted to be partnering with these exciting brands which set the tone for our retail and leisure offering inside the Power Station. On behalf of our Malaysian shareholders we are delivering a destination for our local community as well as London and far beyond.

“We enter 2020 with a very strong pipeline of retail and leisure brands intending to make the Power Station their home, which we will announce over the course of the year as we begin counting down the days to the opening of this historic landmark in 2021.”

Approximately 70% of the total commercial space within the Power Station is now let, with more than 45% of the retail and leisure floorspace exchanged or under offer.

Sam Cotton, head of retail leasing at BPSDC, commented: “We have an unprecedented opportunity to create something truly special within the walls of Battersea Power Station. We are focused on partnering with successful brands from all corners of the world and ensuring a diverse mix is on offer that will satisfy the tastes of all our visitors and create a vibrant retail ecosystem.”

The new lettings follow hot on the heels of the recent announcement that boxing Heavyweight World Champion, Anthony Joshua’s BXR London gym has chosen Battersea Power Station as the location for the brand’s expansion after the original BXR gym opened in Marylebone.

There will be also be a unique collection of new event spaces in partnership with Camm & Hooper, who will host an array of fashion shows and music and cultural events for thousands of people. Additionally, there will be a one-of-its kind glass lift, which will travel up the inside of one of the Power Station’s iconic chimneys, becoming a viewing platform as it emerges out of the 109m summit.

With the Northern Line being extended to give this new area of London its very own Zone 1 Underground station, which is also due to open in 2021, Battersea Power Station is expected to draw visitors from across London and the globe becoming one of the capital’s most visited destinations. It will also be the go-to place for south west London, boosting the local economy and creating over 17,000 jobs.
