Barbour joins forces with Kaptain Sunshine for first time in five years
British heritage lifestyle brand Barbour has teamed up with cult Japanese menswear brand Kaptain Sunshine for a capsule collection for AW25, inspired by adventure, five years on from their first collaboration for AW20.
Given the timing of the first collaboration, when the world was in the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic, this second get-together makes it all the more special.
The collection of outerwear, clothing and accessories - including two caped pieces of headwear - is inspired by Americana, workwear, military and nautical clothing, with both Barbour and Kaptain Sunshine championing the design and development of original fabrics, working closely with Japanese craftsmanship to make each piece “timeless, durable and long lasting”.
lan Bergin, Director of Menswear at Barbour, said: “As well as clothing and accessories, this new range for AW25 includes two outerwear pieces which are loosely based on our ‘Bedale’ and ‘Transport’ wax jackets, but reimagined with interchangeable accessories in unusual colourways, giving choice as opposed to being dictated to by the actual garment, which is a fun touch for this collaboration.”
A spokesperson for Kaptain Sunshine added: “The products are comprised of original fabrics made from the choicest materials, with outstanding craftsmanship. As daywear, the range is built to take hard washing and sun drying, embracing the tradition and essence of field and naval wear, creating a range that is the perfect companion for adventures.”
Key pieces in the collection include the Barbour x Kaptain Sunshine ‘Bedale Casual Field Coat’, a jacket which also formed part of the AW20 collaboration, but this time reimagined in dry wax cotton and available in three colourways with interchangeable hoods.
Next up is the ‘Cruiser Casual’ jacket, loosely based on Barbour’s ‘Transport’ jacket, including a hood made from mountain wool and available in ‘steel blue’, ‘white stone’ and black.
Then comes the Barbour x Kaptain Sunshine ‘Quilted Liner’, which is interconnectable with both jackets, but also a jacket in itself. The collection also includes short and long-sleeved tees featuring a Barbour x Kaptain Sunshine bandana graphic, which again nods to a spirit of adventure.
Kaptain Sunshine was founded by industry veteran and former men’s fashion magazine editor, Shinsuke Kojima, in 2013.
