Barbour Christmas campaign sees Paddington Bear go to Portobello Market for a unique find
British heritage brand Barbour has once again called on the services of the nation’s most loved bear, Paddington, for its new Christmas advertising campaign – with a focus on “upcycling, thoughtfulness and one of a kind-ness”.
Having joined forces for the first time for Barbour’s Christmas campaign last year, with an agreement with The Copyrights Group – owners of the Paddington brand, the new ad sees Paddington taken to Portobello Market by his “family”, Mrs Brown and her daughter Judy, on the lookout out for something to cheer up their grumpy neighbour Mr Curry. We’re informed that Mr Brown has always said “there’s no one quite like Mr Curry.”
The fun tale sees Paddington first heads for a stall selling pots of marmalade, his usual gifting favourite, but advised by Mrs Brown that Mr Curry might want something more unique, Paddington spots a store selling re-loved Barbour jackets, or “old jackets re-homed.” He decides that would be the perfect gift.
Paddington presents Mr Curry with a wrapped up re-loved jacket, having initially clumsily taken his front door knocker off, with a note reading: “This jacket is one of a kind, just like you, from Paddington”. Mr Curry then warms to the loveable bear and the end tagline comes up: ‘For gifts they’ll always remember, it could only be Barbour’.
Paul Wilkinson, Group Marketing Director & MD, USA at Barbour, said: “We are delighted to feature Paddington in our Christmas film. Extending the life of our garments has been at the heart of our brand for over 100 years and through Barbour Re-Loved, a key focus of our Wax for Life initiative, we have been able to demonstrate in a humorous and sentimental way, the importance of upcycling and how much a thoughtful and unique present can mean particularly at Christmas time.”
To support the campaign, through its website and other direct to consumer channels, Barbour is launching a limited-edition Barbour x Paddington Re-Loved jacket with a unique lining taken from an image in this year’s Christmas film – each upcycled and one of a kind. Men’s and women’s classic wax jackets, the ‘Bedale’ and’ Beadnell’, will also be available with a special Paddington lining.
