Balenciaga leaves Twitter following Elon Musk takeover
Balenciaga has become the first major fashion brand to delete its Twitter account following Elon Musk's controversial acquisition of the social media platform in October.
The Paris-based fashion house follows the likes of corporations such as Dyson to leave the platform. Companies as well as celebrities, such as Gigi Hadid, have raised concerns about engaging in the site after Musk removed profanity blocks.
Model Gigi Hadid commented on deleting her account: “For a long time, but especially with its new leadership, it’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate & bigotry, and it’s not a place I want to be a part of.”
Balenciaga, which previously had 950,000 twitter followers, will focus on its marketing strategy on Instagram, where it has 14.3 million followers.
The social media platform will undergo a series of alterations under Musk's leadership. These changes include payable verified ticks as well as refreshing banned accounts, bringing back the likes of Donald Trump and Azealia Banks.
