Baartmans and Siegel: LCM AW16 Menswear Review

David Watts
15 January 2016

Wouter Baartmans and Amber Siegel are the Dutch/British design duo behind the brand Baartmans & Siegel.  For AW16 they are tripping the light fantastic back to the era of the 1970s and the bustling happenings of New York City.  The 70s vibe is very apparent in both the styling long tousled hair and big glasses (Catherine Hayward- Esquire magazine) and the collection. The Studio 54 vibe was apparent as was the hustle of Harlem- think Shaft!

They do create meticulous outerwear - puffer and hooded blouson jackets, some cropped, and the collection featured lots of overcoats including furs, both button-through and belted styles.  The attention to detail on tailored topcoats, bomber jackets (fur lined) was apparent and suiting was relaxed with a wider leg, double-breasted and peaked reveres.  A perfect bomber jacket (part of a suit) with tipped rib cuffs had detailed back panel embroidery.  The collection was dressed down with Converse - Chuck Taylor footwear which was both retro and very now.

The colour palette is 70s retro with soft browns, toffee and camel as well as mid and charcoal grey stripes.
