Australian menswear brand M.J. Bale makes London debut with Duke Street store
Australian menswear brand M.J. Bale has chosen 30 Duke Street for its London debut, taking a lease on a 2,636 sq ft space.
The new store, which has a frontage on Jermyn Street, marks the brand's first step into the UK market, expanding on its network of more than 80 stores in its native Australia.
M.J. Bale was founded in 2009 by Matt Jensen and offers tailored men's suits, tuxedos, jackets and shirts. The brand describes itself as creating "rugged elegance for the guy who loves life and knows how to live it".
It is also the Official Tailor to the Australian Test Cricket team, as well as a host of other sporting teams.
The menswear brand has likely chosen the location because it is closely associated with premium menswear.
Jermyn Street has long served as a hub for tailoring and formalwear in London, and the brand's decision to open there positions it alongside established names in the category, including Hawes & Curtis, Hackett and Sunspel.
The store has not yet opened. Property developer Great Portland Estates (GPE), which owns the space, described the deal as a pre-let, meaning the lease was signed ahead of the building's practical completion.
