“Athleisure” has been the dominant fashion trend of 2015, according to The Best of Polyvore 2015 report, which shows the most searched-for terms on the Yahoo!-owned social shopping site.

Athleisure, the catch-all term for sports-influenced daywear, has been big news and, according to style watchers, is a trend that is set to endure in 2016 and beyond.

The most searched for designer on the Polyvore site was Stella McCartney, who claimed the top spot, largely thanks to her collection for Adidas. McCartney, who expanded her collaboration with Adidas this year with the launch of StellaSport which targets a younger audience (pictured above), achieved 57% more searches than the next most searched for designer, Tory Burch. Alexander Wang, also known for his Athleisure aesthetic came in third on the list.

Polyvore’s most searched for designers 2015:

  • Stella McCartney
  • Tory Burch
  • Alexander Wang
  • Manish Arora
  • Michael Kors
  • Marc Jacobs

Sports brands Nike and Adidas topped the most searched for brands list, which was also dominated by luxury names such as Chanel, Givenchy (which caused a splash by inviting members of the public to its SS16 catwalk show, which was held for the first time in New York in September), Fendi and Christian Louboutin.

The report also appears to confirm the demise of the skinny jean as searchers favoured skirts and dresses instead. The number one most searched-for fashion item was tulle skirts, while denim dresses and midi skirts were also strong performers.

Polyvore’s most searched-for fashion items 2015:

  • Tulle skirts
  • Gladiator Sandals
  • Denim dresses
  • Two-piece dresses
  • Midi Skirts

The most popular colour by far was white, which was 21% more popular than the second colour camel, which was a key shade in the 70s trend which dominated the year.

Polyvore’s most searched-for colours 2015:

  • White
  • Camel
  • Gold
  • Yellow
  • Red
  • Coral
  • Pink
  • Mint green
  • Black
  • Burgundy

In terms of the most influential celebrities, unsurprisingly the women’s list featured a strong showing form the Kendall/Kardashian clan, with Kendall Jenner coming in at number two and Kim Kardashian at number four. They were divided in the list by pop stars Ariana Grande (number one) and Taylor Swift (number three).

One Direction’s Harry Styles topped the men’s list, while his bandmate Louis Tomlinson came in at number four. Musician Luke Hemmings came in at number two and Justin Bieber was number three.
