Astrid Andersen: LCM AW16 Menswear Review

David Watts
16 January 2016

Astrid Andersen is a London based brand that creates premium casualwear with a sports-inspired aesthetic that leads a new generation in menswear. It's not very often that one can identify the beginnings of a fashion trend or new classification, but the origins of "Athleisure" the latest term for garments that morph from athletic/workout to general casual wear have been seen in Andersen's collections since the brand's inception.

With the addition of amazing Sophie Hallette lace (another first seen in her early collections) her premium casualwear of T's, sweats and tracksuits has now grown in stature to include a comprehensive tailoring and outerwear range.

The AW16 collection protects from the winter elements with quilted nylon, fine gauge polyamide technical denim and fine wools.  There was an innovative use of Linton Tweed (100 year-old British mill) in her menswear, that may possibly have made Madame Chanel gasp!

But Andersen has never been shy about pushing the fabric component envelope.  The colour palette ranged from bold Imperial red, airforce blue, military green and grey further complemented by a soft mint green accent used in cable knits and joggers. Outerwear shapes included the gilet, the topcoat, parka and bomber with zip-around details on the sleeves.

Continuing a print collaboration with US branding solutions group Avery Dennison, Andersen uses high-def heat transfers with a raised reflective silicone finish for detail and logos with a leather like embossed finish. Another nice touch to the show was a runway carpet exclusively created by Danish Mill Egetaeooer that work Andersen's print design and logo into a cool, bold statement.
