ASOS launches try before you buy service

ASOS has today unveiled a new "try before you buy" service for customers using its app.

The service, which has been introduced in partnership with payment provider Klarna, allows app users to order anything from the etailer's 85,000-strong product line up, have it delivered to their home using any of ASOS's various delivery options and only pay for what they keep within 30 days of the order being dispatched, with no additional fees or interest.

This latest initiative follows on from the recent launch of ASOS Instant, a same-day delivery service in London, Style Match, a new visual search function, and the launch of its own-brand make-up line.

“We are constantly looking for new ways to improve the ASOS experience for our 15.4m customers around the world,” said Nicola Thompson, Global Trading Director at ASOS. “We know people love the option of paying later only for the things they keep, and are excited to introduce this for customers shopping on our app in the UK.”

To pay with Klarna, app users must be over 18 years of age, have a mobile number, an email and a UK residential address. Once an order has been confirmed, the customer receives an email from Klarna with payment instructions. The customer will  then have 30 days to complete the payment via credit or debit card at Klarna's website.

If a customer decides to cancel an order, Klarna will withdraw the statement once the order has been cancelled. If an order is returned, a refund is processed once it arrives back at the ASOS warehouse.

Amazon Fashion revealed earlier the year that is was trialling Amazon Prime Wardrobe, a try before you buy service, for customers in the US. The service allows Prime customers to order up to 15 items from a particular selection on its website and try at home for free. Customers receive discounts depending on the volume of items they keep.

Luxury etailers NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER have also introduced you try, we wait services for EIP customers in London, with New York and Hong Kong to follow.
