Asics reveals net sales exceeded £2.5 billion, strong gross profit

Shoe brand Asics has published its latest results for the fiscal year ending 31 December 2021, showing its net sales exceeded £2.5 billion for the first time in four years.

Net sales grew by 22.9% against 2020 to reach £2.57 billion (¥404,082 billion), with Asics crediting strong sales across all regions, mainly driven by the Performance Running and the Core Performance Sports category. Its operating income also increasing compared to the previous fiscal year to £140 million (¥21,945 billion).

Worldwide e-commerce sales grew by 23% compared to the previous year, which increased the e-commerce sales ratio to 16%. The brand outlined that its digital achievements in the past year included the launch of a running training course in Japan, holding a virtual race and selling its first NFT footwear, the Asics Sunrise Red NFT Collection, through digital auctions.

Gross profit increased by 30.8% to £1.3 billion (¥199,878 billion), while profit attributable to the owners of the parent company was  £60 million (¥9,402 billion).

Asics reported that net sales in Performance Running grew by 31% to £1.3 billion (¥208,268 billion) with strong sales in all regions. The group had launched two new running shoes, Metaspeed Sky and Metaspeed Edge. For its Core Performance Sports net sales increased 23.2% to £263 million (¥41,332 billion) due to strong sales in all regions.

Asics also revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic is continuing to affect economic activity, with reduced business hours at the some of its retail stores and commercial facilities, and a decrease in overall customers because of people refraining from going out.
