Andy Murray to wear AMC Merino wool kit at Wimbledon following 5-piece retail collection launch
Scottish tennis great Andy Murray is to compete at Wimbledon in an innovative first-of-its-kind Merino wool-based kit by AMC, the premium tennis clothing label by Castore which he jointly owns, in collaboration with The Woolmark Company.
Murray has helped to create each piece, working closely with AMC’s designers and The Woolmark Company, and he will wear the garments during his training for Wimbledon and for all of his matches during the tournament, which starts on 28 June, 2021.
However, ahead of that, today sees the global launch of a five-piece Merino wool retail collection to get fans fired up, including a short-sleeved top, a hoody and a quarter zip-neck warm-up top. All pieces are dual-branded AMC and Woolmark.
The unique wool blend tennis apparel collection has been engineered with Merino wool using cutting-edge technology to enhance athletic performance, and the kit leans on wool's natural performance attributes - from breathability to thermoregulation.
As well as being gentler on the planet due it being a 100% natural, renewable and biodegradable fibre, a key focus for Murray was creating a more natural playing kit.
Murray said: “I’ve been testing the kit for a few months now and I’m really happy with how it feels and performs. I’ve worked closely with the designers on every piece and given regular feedback, as the technical performance is vital. It’s also very important the kit is sustainable and I like the fact it looks and feels a bit different.”
Stuart McCullough, The Woolmark Company’s Managing Director, added: “The launch of this innovative kit elevates Merino wool to an entirely new level of performance on a global stage and demonstrates that Merino wool garments are both stylish and capable of use in an elite sporting environment.”
