US men’s and women’s lifestyle, clothing and accessories retailer American Eagle and its intimates, apparel and lifestyle women’s sub-brand Aerie, are both opening stores in London’s Carnaby area in early December, 2021.

American Eagle will have a 3,888 sq ft store over two floors at 15 Foubert’s Place, while Aerie will have a 1,630 sq ft space, also set over two floors, at 19 Foubert’s Place. It’s a return to UK retail for American Eagle, but a debut UK store for Aerie.

American Eagle, which has over 900 stores in the US, made its UK retail debut with three stores in 2014 – at Westfield London, Westfield Stratford and Bluewater in Kent - but pulled out in 2017, closing all three stores.

Popular with university and high school students in the US, where it operates over 900 stores, American Eagle specialises in graphic Tees and sweats, hoodies, jeans, jackets and shirts.

Parent company American Eagle Outfitters also operates around 175 Aerie stores in the US (as of January 2021). The brand offers a selection of lingerie, loungewear, active apparel, sleepwear and clothing such as dresses and jumpsuits.

Aerie

Nish Soneji, CEO of American Eagle Europe and Aerie Europe, said: “As experts in bringing US fashion brands to the UK and Europe, we had to ensure the locations for American Eagle and Aerie's London stores not only resonate with London's young and trend-savvy fashion consumers but would also make a dramatic impact for these game-changing brands.

“With its mix of vibrant and directional international fashion players we knew instinctively that Foubert's Place and the Carnaby area was the perfect backdrop as a springboard for both American Eagle and Aerie in the UK.”

Samantha Bain-Mollison, Retail Director at landlord Shaftesbury, added: “We are delighted that American Eagle and Aerie have chosen Carnaby’s Foubert’s Place as the location to bring both brands to the UK customer.

“The trend led collections offer a great fit for the Carnaby consumers who are seeking products and experiences that they cannot buy on every high street. The launches add to the exciting line-up of recent openings in the area including Metal Morphosis, Just Hype, Motley London and Aubin.”
