Amazon to create 5,000 new jobs in UK
Ecommerce giant Amazon is set to add 5,000 jobs to its UK workforce taking the total to 24,000.
The new roles will cover many different disciplines and experience levels and will be based at Amazon centres across the country, according to The Times.
Staff will be recruited to Amazon’s head office in London, its customer service centre in Edinburgh, regional delivery centres and the Amazon Fashion studio in Shoreditch.
It also plans to open new centres in Tilbury, Doncaster and Daventry and development centres in Cambridge, Edinburgh and London, which will work on its technology offering such as Alexa and Prime Air (its drone delivery service).
"We are hiring for all types of roles, from flight-test engineers, software engineers and corporate managers in our development centres and head office to operations managers, engineers, service technicians and order fulfilment roles," UK country manager Doug Gurr told The Times.
The move is a further boost to ecommerce roles in the UK. Late last year, fashion etailer ASOS revealed it would be creating a further 1,500 jobs at its headquarters in Camden, North London, taking the total workforce at that site to around 4,000.
