Allbirds ventures into sustainable underwear market

Sustainable footwear brand Allbirds has announced further ventures into clothing, launching a limited-edition collection of underwear for men and women.

Allbirds recently expanded beyond shoes with the release of sustainable socks, which are made with the brands natural material Trino.

Trino combines the cooling, breathable, responsibly harvested Eucalyptus tree fibres with a touch of soft merino wool. The brand had first introduced the material in its sock offering last year.

The new underwear collection features a boxer brief for men and a thong, brief, shortie and bralette for women.

All styles are available in a variety of colours that include Boulder, Storm, Malibu, Nimbus, Raincloud and Wheat, and in sizes XS to XXXL.

In April, Allbirds announced they have become the first fashion brand to label every product produced with carbon footprint information.

The underwear lines sustainability carbon footprint ranges from 1.2 kg to 3.7 kg.

A standard trainer has a carbon footprint of 12.5 kg CO2e, with an Allbirds trainer’s carbon footprint having a significantly lower amount of 7.6 kg CO2e, which is comparable to driving 19 miles in a car or 5 loads of laundry in the dryer.
