Allbirds launches new Treeflyer running shoe

Sustainable footwear brand Allbirds has launched its latest performance running shoe, which marries innovative technology, renewable natural materials, and instantaneous material circularity.

Available in five colourways, the Tree Flyer features a new SwiftFoam midsole, made of 48% bio-based materials such as castor beans which offers runners more propulsion and a 70% rebound rate compared to previous models.

Each pair of trainers, weighing about 269 grams, has a carbon footprint of 9.92 kg CO2e and has gone through testing with over 115 runners and more than 6,000 miles across an array of conditions and climates.

Other features include a flared external heel, an increased toe spring, reflective eye-stays, flat laces and a eucalyptus fiber upper.

Tina Muir, a former professional runner who ran the 2022 Boston Marathon as a guide for a visually impaired runner in the Tree Flyers, said: "The shoes did great. My body felt great. The lightness and bounce of these shoes carried me through the full 26.2 miles in Boston, and would perform equally well in someone else’s first run, race day, or anything in between."

Tim Brown, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Allbirds added: "The Tree Flyer is a true technical and environmental achievement, and demonstrates that the right mix of expertise, diligence, and vision can lead to groundbreaking innovations. Getting this mix right, without a runner's performance or the planet left behind, represents one of the greatest challenges and opportunities for our team, and all footwear brands."

The TreeFlyer is available on Allbird's retail stores and website at £150, in both men's and women's sizes.
